The Met Gala is arguably the fashion calendar’s most important annual event, with celebs flocking to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in their best, boldest looks.

This year, the theme is ‘Tailored For You’, celebrating the MMA’s spring exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which takes the Black dandy as its central subject and is inspired by co-curator Monica Miller’s 2009 book Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

Each year, anyone who’s anyone wants to be seen at the star-studded bash, pulling out all the stops to ensure their outfit is one that leaves a lasting impression on the red carpet.

But there’s one person who won’t be attending this year’s event – or any other, by the sounds of it – and that’s US President Donald Trump.

Chairperson Anna Wintour previously revealed there is no real way to ensure you’re invited, telling CBS Mornings: "Honestly, it depends on the year, it depends on the subject of the exhibition. Really, there’s no clear answer to that."

But it seems there are some people who don’t stand a chance whenever it is.

During an appearance on James Corden’s The Late Late Show, Wintour was forced to either name which of her famous guests she would never invite back, or eat a bowl of pickled pigs’ feet as a forfeit.

"Donald Trump," she responded while the audience erupted in a cheer.

The real estate tycoon used to attend the gala every year, and is even said to have proposed to wife Melania there back in 2004.

“It was a great surprise,” Melania told the New York Post at the time. “We are very happy together."

Before they got engaged, the model was forced to shut down rumours she was only with her partner for his money.

When asked during an 1999 ABC News interview if she would say yes to a proposal, she explained how the public had a different perception of her to those who knew her in real life.

"You know, the people, they don't know me," she said, adding she felt ‘hurt’ by certain comments.

She continued: "You know what, you can't sleep or hug or talk with beautiful things, with beautiful apartment, beautiful plane, beautiful cars, beautiful houses, you can't do that."

Addressing speculation she was only with Donald for his fortune, Melania added: "You could feel very empty. And if somebody said, ‘You're with the man because he's rich and famous,’ they don't know me."
