Diana Ross reveals hidden detail in her stunning Met Gala cape as she returns over 20 years later

She did not disappoint as she returned to the event

It’s been 22 years since Diana Ross graced the Met Gala red carpet with her presence, and it seems she wanted to make sure her return was nothing short of absolutely iconic.

The star last attended back in 2003 alongside former Gucci creative director Tom Ford, when the label sponsored the event.

That year, she wore a bright red floor-length satin gown, which she paired with a matching red cape.

This time, the 81-year-old has gone for less colour... but certainly no less glamour.

Ross turned up wearing an embellished white dress with fur trim, once again with a coordinating cape.

This cape, however, left its predecessor paling in insignificance thanks to a gigantic 18ft train, which literally took over the entire red carpet.

And that’s not all, as the star – who designed the garment herself – also made sure her loved ones featured on her outfit, having had the names of all her children and grandchildren embroidered into it.

Her son Evan Ross and daughter Tracee Ellis Ross both accompanied the singer to the event, with other family members bejewelled on the lengthy train being her other kids - Rhonda, Chudney and Ross - and her eight grandchildren - Raif, Callaway, Everlee, Leif, Indigo, Jagger, Bronx and Ziggy.

According to Vogue, Ross' design for the evening was brought to life by a 'close collaboration between Ross, son Evan and the Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie'.

"Together, they wanted to spotlight a tailored design that celebrated her own family legacy – by spanning the generations of the Ross name, and doing so through refined style," the outlet said.

While it was her first time at the Met Gala in more than two decades, Ross is far from a newbie.

This evening marks her fifth time at the bash, having first attended back in 1978 alongside legendary designer Halston.

Her fans were happy to see her back in action, with everyone left speechless by her jaw-dropping look.

"OH DIANA ROSS LITERALLY CLEARED EVERYONE OMFG ICONIC," one wrote on X.

"Diana Ross showing up and reminding everyone who tf she is," another said.

And a third gushed: "Diana Ross arrives at #MetGala and has eaten up people 60 years younger than her."
