Chrissy Metz has opened up about her decision to try a GLP-1 after years of being sceptical about the medications, revealing the changes she has noticed since starting treatment.
The This Is Us actress, 45, spoke about her experience while discussing her partnership with telehealth company Ro, explaining that she had spent years questioning whether a GLP-1 was right for her.
"I was very sceptical of starting a GLP-1 for a very long time," Metz told E! News. "I'm talking probably six years, since really COVID, when people were sort of talking about it. I'm just very diligent about what and how things work within the body, and I'm like, 'Oh, I don't know what that's gonna be like.'"
Her perspective began to shift after a friend did what Metz described as 'very thorough' research into the medications. She also looked more closely at her own family health history before deciding it was something she wanted to explore.

"I've been on diets for a very, very long time, since I was a kid, and I know I can lose weight," she explained, "but I didn't know that I could quiet food noise, and I didn't know there were other factors.
"There's so much shame around being in a bigger body, so just knowing that I wasn't doing it purely for vanity's sake, but because people are pressuring me, or I should, or shouldn't, do that."
For Metz, the decision was ultimately about her wider health and how she wanted to feel in the future.
"How can I be the healthiest for the longest? How can I really make it a priority for my future and what I want my life to look like?" she recalled asking herself.

Since starting a GLP-1 through Ro, Metz says she has noticed several positive changes, including improvements she believes have helped her keep up with her demanding Broadway schedule in & Juliet, where she performs eight times a week.
"It’s helped with inflammation. It's helped with just overall health lab work and blood work," she shared, "and just generally just an overall feeling of space and creativity that the food noise has quieted.
"It opens up just more ability to be present and for me to be more creative and to really spend my time - my mind time, as I say - with the show and not obsessing about food noise that I didn't even know was a thing, which is crazy."

Metz is also aware that speaking publicly about weight, medication and her body can invite plenty of opinions. Still, she hopes being open about her experience encourages other people to make choices based on what feels right for them.
"I hope that it really opens up conversation," Metz shared, "because I think there are people who, not even with medication, but want to try things in their life, but are afraid of what people are going to say, and don't do it, and perhaps don't find the life that they want, or the joy that they want or deserve because we're so transfixed on what people think about our choices."
And despite once being firmly against the idea, Metz now sees GLP-1s as one possible option for people considering their own health journey.
"Again, I was the biggest sceptic. I was like, 'No, no, no, no, no.' So, I hope it enlightens people to an option that might be right for them."
