It took five months for Anne-Marie to reveal the name of her newborn son - and when she finally did this week, the British musician sparked a fiery debate.

For those in need of a reminder, the 35-year-old announced the birth of a baby boy back in May, whom she shares with rapper husband Slowthai.

The couple - who married in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022 - are already parents to a 19-month-old daughter, Seven.

Taking to Instagram following her latest labour of love, Anne-Marie shared several snaps of her family's latest addition.

"Another beautiful little thing has entered our lives - hello everyone," the mother-of-two captioned the cute collection.

As we say, however, at the time, the Grammy-nominated artist opted to keep her son's name a secret, only revealing the chosen moniker during an interview on the ITV daytime talk-show This Morning this week.

Sitting down with presenters Ben Shepherd and Cat Deeley, Anne-Marie revealed her choice had been inspired by a bout of ill-health she'd previously endured during her pregnancy.

The '2002' singer then went on to reveal that she and Slowthai - real name Tyron Kaymone Frampton - named their son Forever Sugar.

"Okay, his name is Forever," she began, smiling. "Yeah, Forever Sugar. Sugar is his middle name, because I had the diabetes thing you get when you’re pregnant."

It was understood that Anne-Marie was referring to gestational diabetes.

This phenomenon, the Cleveland Clinic explains, describes a specific variation of the disease that a mother-to-be can develop whilst expecting, whereby her blood sugar levels suddenly soar.

The star went on to say: "So I thought what a perfect middle name. Forever Sugar."

After Shepherd noted that Anne-Marie's choice is a 'rockstar name', she went on to reveal: "Well, it’s a weird thing really because my nan used to sign off every card with 'Always and forever'. All the time.

"And now my mom does it and my sister does it and I just think Forever is, I don’t know, it’s just a cool name."

As we say, however, the 'Ciao Adios' chart-topper's unconventional choice of baby name has since divided a number of social media users.

"There is not nickname that can save this," one critic hit out on social media.

Another agreed, adding: "Lowkey cute but maybe not the best name for a baby…they’re human not a damn doll."

"I'm so sorry for that boy cause he's 100% gonna get bullied," a third predicted.

Another went on: "It’s a baby not a dog girl bye your child is gonna grow up being called forever sugar?????"
