Channel 5's five-part drama, Blood, is returning for a second season this week - and with an episode on every evening, you'll be able to binge the lot in a matter of days.

The crime drama, starring Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar picks up exactly where the first series left off, with Jim Hogan determined to make amends with his family.

The first season saw a woman named Cat Hogan return to her hometown in Ireland after a decade of living away. Her mother, Mary, has suddenly died after an alleged accident at home, but Cat isn't convinced.

She begins to suspect her father Jim and soon, webs of secrets and lies begin to unfold. At the end of the first season, we find out Mary had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease and had asked Jim to assist with her death.

Picking up the story in the second season, Jim returns after a year away and finds Fiona - his eldest daughter - is also suffering with motor neurone disease, the same illness that her mother had.

Fiona and husband Paul are struggling to cope, and Jim's arrival home and intentions to make amends seems to only add to their grief.

The first episode sees Fiona's car veer off the road and into a canal. And while loved ones rush to support her, they're shocked when Detective Dez Breen makes a startling discovering.

The gripping first episode looks back over the past year, detailing what has happened while Jim was living away and how this will affect the rest of the Hogan family.

Speaking about the start of the new series, Adrian explains: "When we join the new series, Jim has just returned after leaving for a year. There was a court case and he avoided going to prison, so he went on some travels like he said he was going to do.

"Upon return, Jim struggles to find work as a doctor because once the situation comes up and they find out about his past they overlook him.

"Jim's daughter, Fiona is ill, suffering with the same disease his wife had. [...] Initially, everything seems okay. However, what happens next is a series of incidents that draw Jim and Paul into what looks like a drug ring.

"It is a very delicate situation; nobody wants to upset the apple cart but it's going to have to happen for things to be resolved. We find out a piece of information and it is a question of whether we are going to release the information or are we going to keep a lid on it and Paul has reason for Jim to keep a lid on it because he is in trouble himself."

Blood Season 2 begins on Channel 5 on Monday 27th April at 9pm and will continue for five consecutive evenings. The final will be a feature length special on Friday 1st May.

If the second season is anything like the first, we're going to be completely gripped to this one...
