US mockumentary sitcom Modern Family finally revealed the death of a 'significant' character last night, that the show had been teasing viewers with over the past month.
However, fans were left less than impressed with who producers chose to kill off, as they were supposedly 'significant' to the programme.

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment after DeDe Pritchett - Jay's ex-wife and the mother of Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Pritchett - was killed off.
After the mystery death was initially teased in September, fans were left worrying about which beloved character would be facing the chop and whether the other characters would ever get over the trauma.
Co-creator Christopher Lloyd previously said that a "significant character on the series" would die during season 10.

Although viewers weren't confused about DeDe being killed of in particular, some viewers were puzzled why she was described as 'significant'.
Julie Bowen's character had only appeared in seven of the show's 214 episodes and fans didn't warm to her, with some describing her as 'aggressive' and 'manipulative'.
Viewers were left feeling slightly emotional for Mitch, who was close to his mother, as he began to reminisce and share stories of DeDe.

Taking to Twitter, fans revealed what they thought of the death.
One user wrote: "After this whole tease of a major character death we get Dede? Really? This reminds me of the days of Melrose Place when they would tease a death and it would always be a side character no one cared about [sic]."
Another added: "Modern Family has never disappointed...until tonight. The death reveal was underwhelming. It also took away from the usual shenanigans that would make the Halloween episode entertaining [sic]."'

A third user criticised the writers for not going for a bigger character.
They said: "Calling the modern family death a 'major character' was false advertising. Jay or bust [sic]."
Despite the episode being somewhat 'disappointing' for viewers, some fans stll enjoyed the twist and were glad it wasn't anyone too major in the show.

One user wrote: "I'm saddened by the passing of Dee Dee Pritchett! She truly brought it in a sarcastic yet truly comedic way whenever she was around. She will truly be missed [sic]!"
Another added: "So sad to about Claire's mum. But I'm also a little happy that it's not a main person [sic]."
