This Country bowed out with its final ever episode last night - and it's fair to say that across the UK, there was laughter and there were tears.

While saying goodbye to such an iconic series was always going to be heartbreaking, there was one moment in particular that left everybody sobbing.

We are, of course, talking about the vicar's departure.

Yep, the last chapter of the show, named Harvest, saw Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe (Charlie and Dairy May Cooper) bid farewell to the Vicar (Paul Chahidi) as he prepared himself to up shop and move to Bristol.

"I just feel it's a good time for a new challenge," he explained to the pair.

"I know it won't be easy but my job is not to stay comfortable, and much as I love it here with you all, I need to help people".

However, naturally, Kerry and Kurtan weren't too happy about his decision, with Kerry vowing to keep him in the village no matter what, and Kurtan even resorting to angry Facebook posts as they grappled with his friend's decision.

"I'd rather kill him than let another parish have him," Kurtan moaned.

While Kerry added: "I don't even want his family to have him".

As they continued to battle to keep him in their lives, the vicar even begun to doubt his decision, wondering if moving to Bristol was the right thing when things were falling apart around him.

However, in the tear-jerking final scenes, the pair realised that it would be unfair to stop him from following his dreams.

Entering the vicar's office with their tails between their legs, Kelly said: "Vicar, can we have a word?"

"You know you've gotta go, don't you vicar?," Kurtan then urged.

"Yeah, you're gonna be great," Kelly added, putting an affectionate arm around him as he started to cry.

"I just hope they realise what they've got," Kurtan said, emotionally.

"Because you're a legend!", Kerry exclaimed, before they all shared a group hug. "You're annoying as well. Really annoying".

Taking to social media after the heartwarming moment aired, one viewer wrote: "Watched final episode of #ThisCountry to cheer me up after Boris' speech.

"Ended up crying my eyes out! @PaulChahidi you broke my heart Well done to everyone involved in making one of the BEST (if not the best) comedies of the last decade!! We'll miss you!"

While another added: "Watched the last episode. I'm crying a LOT. That was so beautiful. #ThisCountry".

A third concurred: "Well, #ThisCountry was perfect right to the last moment. Brilliant writing - so subtle in making some real points, genuinely moving & always very very funny. Plus two of the best performances in any tv drama in a decade. It'll be badly missed. Thanks @charliecooper11 & Daisy May".

As a fourth wrote: "Sat here absolutely sobbing at #ThisCountry I can't believe it's over and that last scene broke my heart...one of the best series ever. @CharlieCooper11 @PalChahidi".

We can't believe it's over either...but what a way to go.
