The Bachelor has come under fire after footage of an utterly savage challenge has resurfaced, in which contestants had to pelt eggs at the suitor they most wanted to go home, or found least attractive.

The moment aired on in 2011 on spin-off Bachelor Pad, in which singletons from The Bachelor franchise all join each other in a house for a shot at love.

And it has since been described as "abusive" by one of the woman who was egg-spattered.

Erica Rose, a contestant on that year's show, ended up being egged by the most men during the challenge.

In a clip from after the game, we heartbreakingly hear her say: "Earlier today I was feeling relaxed and like everyone had a positive opinion of me.

"Maybe I'm wrong, you know?"

Speaking on the Unpopular podcast, with host Jacques Peterson, Erica looked back on the task - in which she had a target drawn on her back as she stood in a tiny bikini.

The game was reversed, too, so the men were also pelted by the women. But Erica seemed to be the contestant who got the most eggs all round.

As the podcast host suggested that the game "may be the worst challenge in reality TV," Erica agreed, adding that it felt abusive at the time.

"It really hurt, so that's when I was like, 'Ow, I don't want to do this anymore'," she said. "Emotionally it was traumatic. Physically, that f**king hurt.

"They cut some of it down, but I walked off and I was like I don't want to do this anymore. This is abusive. It's not just my feelings are hurt, but that f**king hurt.

"The point of the game wasn't to injure people. It was to humiliate them, I guess".

To make matters worse, Erica said Chris Harrison - who has now left the franchise shrouded in controversy - reportedly told the emotionally wounded star: "If you don't finish this challenge and let the eggs get thrown at you, you're going to be eliminated."

Erica says that since the show aired, she has reached out to The Bachelor creator, Mike Fleiss, and asked for an apology.

He reportedly agreed that the task was "tasteless and wrong" and told her he was "sincerely apologetic".
