Hollywood's current obsession with nostalgic reboots has just peaked with rumours that a remake of The Princess Bride is in the works - and fans are not happy.
The 1987 fantasy adventure - starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon - received modest success at the box office on its release but has since gone on to become a cult classic, loved for its cheesy romance scenes, dramatic sword fights and iconic one-liners.

Following this year's other reputable reboots, which include The Lion King, Aladdin and Dumbo, it's hardly the next film you'd expect pegged for a remake.
And fans for one want it to be left alone.
"The audacity of Sony to even think that The Princess Bride needs a reboot/remake?! Madness," said one fan on Twitter.

"LOOK I usually don't care what movie they reboot since apparently no one has fresh ideas anymore but if anyone touches a single hair on The Princess Bride I WILL REVOLT," begged another.
"If Hollywood cant think of any new original stories to tell on the big screen , I stead of all these reboots remakes try harder leave princess bride alone," urged a third.
It was legendary American TV producers Norman Lear, the Sony exec who worked on the original, who first spilt the tea on a possible remake during an interview with Variety.

Speaking about the current demand for remakes of old TV shows and films, the 97-year-old revealed: "We have so many people coming to us saying, 'We want to remake this show or that show,'" adding, "Very famous people whose names I won't use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride."
Considering remakes (are meant to) serve the purpose of offering a new, modernised take on a classic to audiences around the globe, whether that be through state of the art CGI or updates on obsolete plot lines, it doesn't feel like something a film like The Princess Bride, perfect for being exact what it is - an 80s nostalgia fest - needs.
Hollywood, please leave this one alone.
