Nessa From 'Gavin & Stacey' Returns With An Important Coronavirus Warning

Gavin & Stacey fans have been offered some light relief amid lockdown as Nessa returns with an important (and hilarious!) message.

Just months after the sitcom returned for a one-off Christmas special, Ruth Jones - who plays Stacey's straight-talking best friend Nessa Jenkins - redonned her biker jacket and fake tattoo for a special message for fans.

Filmed by Ruth's husband, screenwriter David Peet, Nessa gave an important warning about social distancing, joking fans could be "riddled" with the virus, before thanking front line health workers for all their efforts.

"Oh, what's occurin'? Not a lot, other than a global pandemic - but the question was rhetorical," she says.

"Now listen, I'm not hear to give you advice, there's plenty of others who will do that for you. It's your life, and I'm not about to tell you how to live it.

"I wouldn't do that to no one, I wouldn't even tell myself how to live my life.

"But I will say this, if you see me in the morning doing my daily run, my half marathon around Barry, don't even think about breaking that two metre rule.

"Because if you does, I will not hesitate to tell you quite clearly, to back off.

"At the end of the day when all is said and done, no word of a lie, if truth be told just because you don't feel ill doesn't mean you're not infectious!

"You could be riddled. Stay safe, stay out of my way. Oh and protect the NHS, obviously, it goes without saying."

The hilarious video was posted on David's Twitter, who wrote: "Guess who turned up! Please feel free to share if you think it helps."

Ruth's co-star James Corden, who plays Smithy in the sitcom, also shared the clip, joking: "An important public message."

Last month, the BBC announced it would be airing old episodes of the sitcom - which ran for three series from 2007 to 2010 - weekly, with the first landing on BBC One on 4th April.

The broadcaster decided to rerun the hit show - along with a host of others - to "bring the nation together and provide great British entertainment during these difficult times," as well as give people "something to look forward to from the comfort of their own homes".

The show - written by James Corden and Ruth Jones - returned in December for a one-off festive special where fans got to catch up with the whole Barry Island gang a decade after they were last on our screens.

Anyone else think Nessa should do a weekly coronavirus broadcast? Ruth Jones, if you're listening...
