As the nation tuned in for another electrifying episode of Line of Duty, viewers have wasted no time in trying to figure out who is behind the latest major twist in Kate's uncertain fate.

On Sunday's episode, viewers were left shook as episode five concluded with a shooting but it's not clear who was shot. Some fans have speculated the victim might be PC Ryan Pilkington or DI Kate Flemming, who faced off in an intense shoot-out.

One fan took to Reddit after unearthing a clip from the season 6 we have all seen before but never knew its importance until now, which may give us some hints about who was shot and what has happened to Kate.

See for yourself in the video below at 00:08.

In a screengrab from the trailer you can see what looks like Ryan's dead body wearing the same clothes he was seen in at the end of episode five.

In another twist of events, another Reddit user hypothesised that Ryan was shot by Jo Davidson. They wrote in response to the unearthed clip: "This makes me think Jo shot Ryan and then Kate and Jo drive off in the other car. Maybe Jo kidnaps Kate? Either way... Ryan looks dead."

We are shook!

Did Jed Mercurio really give fans such an important Easter egg in the season's official trailer? Stranger things have happened that's for sure.

Following episode three, lots of fans thought bent copper Ryan was about to kill Kate.

Ryan has appeared in the show since the first series, when he was linked to the OCG and part of a team that tied up Steve and nearly cut off his finger.

So, it's fair to assume that after grilling him after his involvement in driving a police car off the road which resulted in the death of the police officer driving, Kate would be in danger. This led to fans predicting the two would eventually come head-to-head.

Another fan in the Reddit thread supported the idea of Jo kidnapping Kate, adding: "You think they are going for a Thelma and Louise ending with Kate and Jo running from Hastings?"

That would certainly make for a thrilling finale.
