It’s the crossover for the ages.

With Christmas just mere weeks away, we've been getting into the festive spirit by rewatching what is undisputedly the best Yuletide movie of all time - Home Alone.

But our annual revisit to the Christmas classic, which sees little Kevin left on his home after his family jets off on holiday, has seen us make an unlikely casting connection.

Yep, it turns out that forgetful mother Kate McCallister is more than just a familiar face - with actress Catherine O'Hara perhaps better known to audiences for her role as the fabulous Moira Rose in hugely popular comedy series Schitt's Creek.

It seems we're not the only ones who have only just made that connection, with fans of the both the Christmas film and the off-beat comedy taking to Twitter to announce their surprise.

And the general consensus is that minds have been blown.

However, not everyone was as surprised, with some claiming to have been aware of the "crossover" from the start.

However, as someone who has been acting since the 1970's, it's no wonder that Catherine O'Hara has been in a number of our favourite films.

The Canadian star, 66, is a favourite of director Tim Burton, having starred as Delia Deetz in 1988 fantasy comedy Beetlejuice.

She also voiced Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Susan Frankenstein in 2012 film Frankenweenie.

But Catherine has become a firm favourite with a whole new generation of fans due to her role as the hugely over-the-top Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek.

Following a once-rich family that loses all their wealth and are forced to relocate to a town they once bought as a joke, Schitt's Creek swept the board at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards - becoming the first comedy programme to win every award in its category.

Catherine herself also landed a gong, having won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In a Comedy Series.
