New Year's Day is intended for us to lie in and sleep off the night before - and now, the BBC have got our hangover viewing sorted.

The Beeb have announced that it has acquired the iconic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and that all six seasons of the show will drop on BBC iPlayer from January 1st.

For those of you who have never sat down to watch The Fresh Prince (heathens!), the show follows Will Smith who plays a fictionalised version of himself as he is famously moved from West Philly to live with his wealthy Auntie and Uncle in Bel-Air.

The show also starred Janet Hubert/Daphne Maxwell Reid and the late James Avery, alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, and Tatyana M. Ali, as Smith's cousins and Joseph Marcell as the butler Geoffrey.

Despite having first hit our screens in the nineties, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has retained its popularity to this day thanks to its signature blend of hilarity and sincerity, and has since gone on to influence writers and actors across the globe.

It also launched the career of Will Smith, who is now an internationally recognised Hollywood star.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's arrival on BBC iPlayer marks the show's return to the BBC, with the show previously available to watch on BBC Two until its original run ended in 2004.

Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC iPlayer said of the series: "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and its all-star cast will amuse and entertain a new generation through BBC iPlayer and there is an opportunity to re-indulge for those who enjoyed the series on BBC screens the first time around."

Also landing on the streaming service on New Year's Day is cult classic drama Pretty Little Liars. The 2010 series is set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, and follows the lives of four girls whose friendship falls apart following the disappearance of the group's leader Alison DiLaurentis (played by Sasha Pieterse).
