Daniel Radcliffe's New True Crime ‘Escape to Pretoria’ Sees Him Try to Escape Prison
The trailer for Daniel Radcliffe's new true crime has been released, and our hearts will not stop racing.
Due for release in March 2020, Escape from Pretoria sees the Harry Potter star play Tim Jenkin, a South African apartheid activist imprisoned in a maximum security jail.
Based on a true story, the film follows Jenkin and two other freedom fighters (played by Mark Leonard Winter and Daniel Webber) as they attempt to break out. The real escape happened 40 years ago in December, 1979.
Just eight seconds into the trailer and Radcliffe has already been handcuffed, kicked in his sleep and screamed at by a terrifying South African guard.
It goes on to explain his escape plan: to hand-carve keys from wood to open multiple steel doors. After being warned of getting "a bullet in the head" if he gets caught, we see Radcliffe trying to hand-make the literal keys escape.
It's a chilling race against time with a lot of of hurdles along the way. As tension mounts, we see scenes of explosions, determination, fights, tears, gunshots, and even glimpses of what looks like a mysterious romance with a woman played by Ratidzo Mambo.
Radcliffe stars alongside other actors including Ian Hart, known for his roles as Quirinus Quirrell in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone or Rabbit in the BBC drama miniseries One Summer.
Other actors include Nathan Page (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries), Stephen Hunter (The Hobbit) and Jeanette Cronin (Secret City).
Directed by Francis Annan and co-written by LH Adam, the story it is based on Jenkin's autobiography Inside Out: Escape From Pretoria Prison.
This is surely a must watch.
Escape from Pretoria will be released in the UK on 6th March, 2020.
