Gritty BBC crime drama Hidden is returning for a new season this month, the broadcaster has announced.

Set in Bangor, north Wales, the hit series premiered in 2018 and followed heroine DI Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams) as she attempts to solve a grisly crime following the discovery of a local woman's body in a remote river. You can watch the trailer for Series 2 here:

Without giving too much away (Series 1 is still on iPlayer for your perusal, people), BBC producers have hinted at yet more unsolved mysteries when the next instalment of the detective drama drops on 15th as Cadi reunites with DS Owen Vaughan (Siôn Alun Davies).

When an anonymous phone call leads to the gruesome murder of an ex-teacher, Cadi leads an investigation in the mountains of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

While Cadi and Vaughan have a new case on their hands however, it appears three young friends - Mia, Connor and Lee - have blood on theirs. And as their lives begin to unravel, the trio soon find out there is nowhere to hide.

The new series of Hidden sees the return of award-winning author Caryl Lewis, and directors Gareth Bryn and Chris Foster.

Series Producer Hannah Thomas said: "The prevailing theme of the second series is guilt - from the guilt that Cadi feels at having caused her father upset before he died to the guilt that Connor carries with him for having not put a stop to an incident that has catastrophic results."

She added: "We take an unflinching look at the lives of three new characters; teenagers Mia Owen, Connor Pritchard and Lee Williams and explore what happens when young people, who feel that they have no hope and no future, make the wrong decisions."

Writer Caryl Lewis added: "Hidden is not meant to be an easy watch. It pushes us sometimes into difficult spaces. Hidden is about shining a light into dark places.

"Bracing yourself and trying not to judge. It is an exercise in understanding and compassion, and ultimately, because of that, an impulse towards hope."

We can't wait to binge this in one.
