Ever since The Queen's Gambit aired on Netflix last month, fans have been hooked. And now, Anya Taylor Joy - who stars as chess prodigy Beth Harmon - has said she *would* be up for doing a second season.

Yass - the news we've been waiting for!

Speaking to Town & Country, Anya said: "If I've learned anything from being in this industry, it's never say never.

"I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to, but I do think we leave Beth in a good place. I think the rest of her life will surely be an adventure as well, but in the quest that she goes on in this to find some form of peace, just some form of being able to be happy with who she is. I think it ends in a nice place."

Consisting of seven episodes, The Queen's Gambit (which is an adaptation of Walter Trevis's novel of the same name) begins in a 1950s orphanage and focuses on Beth - a mega-talented young chess prodigy who is also struggling with an addiction to tranquillisers.

Netflix explains: "Haunted by her personal demons and fuelled by a cocktail of narcotics and obsession, Beth transforms into an impressively skilled and glamorous outcast while determined to conquer the traditional boundaries established in the male-dominated world of competitive chess."

Despite Anya's comments on a possible next instalment, there is only one book, and Netflix are yet to confirm whether there will be a second season.

Of course, many telly adaptations have gone on to produce further seasons, surpassing where their book counterparts left off - so it's not completely off the cards.

Perhaps it will come down to the demand from fans, which is currently split down the middle. Although many are desperate for a second season, others are satisfied that the story is complete.

One fan said: "Need a season 2 of the queen's gambit my brain hasn't been functioning properly ever since I finished it."

While another added: "Aww it's over! OMG.what an incredible series!! everyone needs to watch The Queen's Gambit! Hope it wins a lot of awards!! I need a season 2!!"

Others are less keen however, with some thinking a Season 2 would ruin the story.

One wrote: "I hope they don't make a Season 2 of The Queen's Gambit. Perfect ending!"

While another added: "The Queen's Gambit was like one of the best things I've ever watched but please for the love of god stop asking for a season 2.. the stories over!!! Don't ruin it!!!" [sic].

Netflix are yet to reveal any further details, but as soon as we hear anything, we'll let you know! More to follow...
