While there are lots of iconic things about her majesty, Queen Elizabeth, her signature hand wave has definitely got to be up there.

We've often sat and wondered if the Queen gets an achy arm from all the waving, because let's face it, she does a lot of it while she's out visiting the public, but it turns out she was once given a gag gift to help her with the iconic wave.

Queen Elizabeth once met a group of students on a trip to Australia who gave her a fake waving hand as a gag gift, People reports.

According to her daughter, Princess Anne: "They gave her a stuffed glove on a wooden lever so that you could tweak the end of the lever and this hand went to and fro. I think they thought it was rather cheeky but Her Majesty was thrilled."

Just to recap, not only was our Queenie gifted with a fake hand by a group of students but absolutely loved it, proving that she definitely has a great sense of humour.

While the lighthearted revelation made us all smile, Queen Elizabeth has also recently revealed what she calls "the most ghastly day of my life," and it's truly heartbreaking.

According to Andrew Parker Bowles, the Queen said the IRA attack on London in 1982 was the worst day in her 66 years of reigning over the UK.

The devastating event involved bombs in Hyde Park and Regent's Park killing 11 soldiers and seven horses.

Four soldiers and seven horses were killed when a nail bomb exploded in the boot of a car in Hyde Park and just two hours later a second bomb exploded beneath the bandstand at Regent's Park, killing seven of the 30 bandsmen and injuring many of the rest.

Speaking to the Express about the horrific events, Andrew said: "It was a nice, sunny day and suddenly one heard this explosion one heard all the time in Northern Ireland.

"One of the barriers opened and someone said, 'They've blown up the Guard'. So we ran down to where the smoke was rising."

Later on that day, he spoke to the Queen, adding: "She said to me it was 'The most ghastly day of my life'".
