America Ferrera graced the Oscars red carpet with her blossoming baby bump on Sunday evening, and now the Ugly Betty star has explained the meaning behind her stunning outfit.

The actress, who is currently expecting her second child, opted for a dark red floor-length maxi for the 92nd Academy Awards.

Ahead of the prestigious awards ceremony, America took to Instagram to explain her choice of head wear in a heartfelt post, also paying homage to one of her most famous characters.

"#Oscars for the final farewell to 12 years of How to Train Your Dragon & my Berkian Warrior Queen Astrid," America penned to her 1.8 million Instagram followers.

She added: "Tonight, I bring my own warrior ancestors with me, the indigenous Lenca tribe of Honduras."

Alongside the caption, America shared a series of photos of traditional Lencan headpieces from which hers draws its inspiration.
