The one-off concert, which aired on Sunday night, marked the singer’s first live UK performance in four years and was attended by a star-studded cast including the likes of Emma Watson, Samuel L. Jackson and Mel B.
While watching proceedings from home, the 56-year-old broadcaster and television personality tweeted: "If I was at this #AnAudienceWithAdele, I’d ask her two questions: 1) Does the unctuous sycophancy from your celebrity fans make you want to vomit? 2) How come you’re singing more perfectly ‘live’ than on your records? * This probably explains why I wasn’t invited."
Oh dear Piers, Adele fans will have no mercy.
Piers was referring to the swathes of celebrity admirers and pals in the audience of the show including Daniel Kaluuya, Alan Carr, David Tennant, Dua Lipa and even Emma Thompson showcasing some iconic moves.
Adele's dedicated fanbase then replied to Piers's tweet about why he wasn't invited: "You weren’t invited because you[’re] a nobody! So off you trot again and go and crawl under your stone."
Another Twitter user sarcastically tweeted: "“Why am I so bitter and resentful of other people’s successes“"
"This man has a wife and a daughter but is Forever dragging a woman down!! Sitting behind your keyboard and berating any woman in the spotlight i beg just STOP!", someone else replied.
One fan put it simply: "Bitter little man".
Another Twitter user agreed with the "little man" sentiment: Piers Morgan is just a small man that never got over FOMO x".
Piers did reply to a quote tweet of the original post that said: "Tell me you’re livid you weren’t invited to #AnAudienceWithAdele without telling me you’re livid".
Piers explained: "No, those things are awful to actually attend - hours & hours waiting around, endless re-takes, way too hot, no alcohol and a high quota of celebrities I’d travel continents to avoid."
Piers soon backtracked slightly on his attack on Adele, tweeting: "Minor irritations aside, there’s no doubt that @Adele is the best singer in the world right now & right up there with Barbra & Whitney as possessor of the best set of pipes in pop history. Just a shame she’s a Spurs fan. #AnAudienceWithAdele".
Maybe a good idea to make amends, Piers? Fingers crossed for an invite in the post next time!
