Lizzo blasted Met Gala's long lines and waiters for being 'stingy with the liquor'

Lizzo shared her unfiltered thoughts after going to the MET Gala for the first time last year.

Lizzo didn’t hold back when she shared her shock after attending the Met Gala last year.

The chart-topping singer attended the annual star-studded fundraiser hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour last year, and she shared all the details about it on social media.

Speaking on Instagram Live, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer, 35, complained about the long lines, the lack of seating and the waiters for being ‘stingy with the liquor’.

Lizzo – whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson – performed an incredible flute solo on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City before heading inside to continue the evening’s festivities.

Now, Lizzo’s experience from last year has just resurfaced ahead of the 2023 Met Gala which takes place tonight.

“There’s a long f—king line,” she told fans last year. “I’m taking the glamour away from it but it’s true. You’ve gotta wait.

“So you’re waiting and that’s the hardest part. I was sweating in a big-ass coat, my feet were hurting.

“They don’t have no chairs, no cocktails. I was like, ‘Bitch, can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d’oeuvres?’"

The Grammy winner continued: “They were being really stingy with the liquor that night. He was like, ‘Red or white wine?’

“And I was like, ‘Tequila! Do you know what I’ve been through? Do you know how many hours I’ve been in this corset? How long I’ve been in these damn shoes? Tequila.”

Lizzo also admitted she felt nervous during her performance on the red carpet. “I had this plan to play the flute and do the whole intro [of a classical piece] but I got nervous and I only played it once because all the photographers were heckling me,” she said.

“They were like, ‘You’re putting us to sleep with the flute!’

“I was like, ‘OK?’ In my mind I thought everyone was going to be transfixed.”

She continued: “So I only played it once, only the first half of it. Then I posed and I got the photos.”

Despite her complaints, Lizzo said she had a great time once the event kicked off inside. “This is like prom for celebrities,” she declared. “My prom f—king sucked.

“Now I feel like the Grammys and the Met Ball, they’re like my prom.”

This year’s Met Gala theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. The fundraiser will pay tribute to the iconic German designer who died in 2019.

The four-time Grammy winner is expected to grace the Met Gala red carpet once again this year after she was spotted attending Wintour’s pre-event dinner at her private residence in New York on Sunday (30 April).

Lizzo wore a gorgeous semi-sheer purple midi-dress with a thigh-high slit paired with purple-tined glasses. We cannot wait to see the look Lizzo wears tonight!
