Lady Gaga praised for performing with no make-up and in jeans at Oscars

Gaga's performance was a pleasant surprise.

Lady Gaga has been praised for her Oscars performance in jeans and a t-shirt with no make up.

Gaga sang a beautiful rendition of 'Hold My Hand' from the film Top Gun: Maverick, which is nominated for Best Original Song at this year's Academy Awards.

Gaga's performance, if a little unexpected, was a masterpiece, and blew viewers away.

Taking to Twitter, fans praised her for going with a raw, stripped back version of the song.

"When I tell you my favourite concerts I’ve been to Lady Gaga is always top of the list, but her raw performances like this always hits me the most. There’s beauty in simplicity," raved one Twitter user.

"No make up, classy, simple and totally organic performance #HoldMyHand We love you, girl," added a second.

"Love this Lady Gaga performance — no make-up, no fancy gown, still killing it," agreed a third.

Lady Gaga, who is an Academy Award winner herself, wasn't originally set to perform on Sunday night, with Oscars executive producer and showrunner Glenn Weiss announcing just last week that she'd be missing from the musical line-up due to filming conflicts.

She'll next appear in Joker: Folie a Deux, in which she'll play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.

"We invited all five nominees. We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp," Weiss had told Variety.

"She is in the middle of shooting a movie right now. Here, we are honouring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie after a bunch of back and forth.

"It didn't feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we're used to with her and that she is used to. So, she is not going to perform on the show."

Well, what a pleasant surprise that was!

Lady Gaga's 'Hold My Hand' is up against Rihanna's 'Lift Me Up' from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne, and Son Lux's 'This Is a Life' from Everything Everywhere All at Once, Diane Warren and Sofia Carson's 'Applause' from Tell It Like a Woman, and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava's 'Naatu Naatu' from RRR for Best Original Song.

Earlier this evening, Lady Gaga had walked the red carpet in a couture Versace silhouette gown with a breath-taking drop-waist and a sheer corset.

Fans were floored by the stunning performance.

To make the outfit pop, the 'Pokerface' singer had sported a dark eyeshadow, which she quickly wiped off before her performance.

Before she charmed every single viewer with her big number, Lady Gaga had already made fans swoon when she stopped her red carpet walk to help a photographer who tripped and fell right beside her.

Is there anything she could do to make us love her more??
