Kevin Costner's wife Christine files for divorce after 18 years of marriage

Kevin Costner's wife Christine files for divorce after 18 years of marriage

The couple have been married for 18 years after tying the knot at his ranch in Colorado in 2004

Kevin Costner’s wife Christine Baumgartner has filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage.

Costner and his wife got married in September 2004 at his ranch in Aspen, Colorado, after being in a relationship for four years.

They went on to have three children together: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.

A representative for Costner confirmed the news to Entertainment Tonight yesterday (Tuesday 2 May), saying in a statement: "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action."

They added: "We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time."

Costner has seven kids from three relationships, having been married before his current wife.

He wed Cindy Silva after meeting her in college in 1975, and now shares three kids with her - Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35.

Costner also has a 27-year-old son, Liam, from another relationship with actor Bridget Rooney.

Last year, the star opened up about the ‘sad part’ of parenting as his kids grew up, saying he’s ‘just like any other parent’.

“I work as a provider,” he told People.

“I'm a father and I'm a husband, but the world doesn't revolve around me.

“When I'm not making a movie, I'm living and on the freeway with my wife, getting the kids to their stuff or I'm waiting for them to come out of a party.

“I'm just twiddling my thumbs. People have a wrong idea about how my life works.”

He continued: "You've got to get down on the ground and play with them.

"And you teach them to be independent — and the sad part about that is they become that.

"I'm like any other parent: I'm trying to figure it out."

Costner’s son Hayes will be appearing in his dad’s upcoming Western film Horizon – something Costner admitted was an intentional move.

“I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me,” he said.

“And the same thing for Cayden, same thing for Grace.

"This is really neat. You should come be with me."
