Kate Middleton praised for wearing a repeated outfit on the red carpet at BAFTAs

Kate Middleton has been praised for wearing a repeated outfit on the red carpet at the BAFTAs today (Sunday 19 February).

There were some strong looks this afternoon as stars rocked up to Royal Festival Hall, with Florence Pugh sporting a bold, bright orange number that she matched with gelled spiky hair, and actor and singer Ariana DeBose keeping it classic with a floor-length black dress.

The Princess of Wales was also there with hubby Will and wore a white gown that some eagle-eyed fans might recognise.

Tweeting a photo of the pair, one person said: “Is it possible Kate has had this previous BAFTA dress reworked for tonight?”

While someone else commented: “That’s exactly what I was thinking!”

And a third added: “I think so! And it looks stunning.”

Indeed, the one-shouldered dress was the Alexander McQueen garment she has previously worn, having been paired this time with black opera-style gloves to switch things up a bit.

Many fans might recognise this dress.

She also accessorised with flowery rose gold earrings from the high street - £18 from Zara, if you’re keen to bag some yourself.

And many fans have been full of praise for the sustainable approach, knowing that many celebrities are often known to don an eye-wateringly expensive dress for mere hours.

One fan tweeted: “Kate in a repeat *modified* dress is so dang good... this is the fashion influencing I’m talking about #bafta.”

And someone else said: “I LOVE the look of Kate and William at the BAFTAs. Kate reusing a McQueen dress (of course) with those earrings and those gloves. Also, I don't think I've ever seen William wear velvet before. Wow.”

The ceremony kicked off with a performance from Ariana DeBose, who treated us to a rendition of Eurythmics hit 'Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves' - adding in a rap partway through so that she could call out to a number of female stars in the audience.

The song was described as 'cringe' as viewers noticed many of the celebs featured in the rap looked fairly stony-faced as the cameras shot to them.

"Bit cringe," one person tweeted.

Someone else said: "Can’t say I was a fan of that rapping."

And a third added: "P**sing myself laughing at the Ariana DeBose BAFTA song. Why did this happen?"

A fourth said the performance was 'cringeworthy', while another wrote: "That was b****y awful."

Others, meanwhile, had nothing but praise for DeBose – claiming it was the celebs in the audience that made the performance so awkward.

“Omg Ariana Debose really giving a great performance and the BAFtA audience (except for the American actors) really giving her absolutely nothing,” one said.

While someone else said: "Great song from Ariana DeBose, I actually liked how the nominees were worked in, could’ve been tacky."

Celebs featured in DeBose's rap included the likes of Ana De Armas, Katy Brand, Michelle Yeoh, Viola Davis and Jamie Lee Curtis, with the camera cutting to them as they were mentioned.

While some stars looked a little baffled, a number were more than happy to join in - with Curtis seen dancing away in her seat.
