Watch the video below:
The video was posted on TikTok and re-shared on Reddit. We do not see Jada’s response to the G.I. Jane joke or the slap itself in the TikTok clip, however Will can be seen returning to his seat next to Jada and actress Lupita Nyong'o.
One Reddit user commented: “So strange that they stare straight ahead and don’t look at each other afterwards”.
While someone else replied: “If my spouse slapped anyone I'd definitely be exchanging some looks trying to [gauge] how they are etc.”
Some Reddit users were convinced that Jada laughed after the slap, however the actress’ reaction is not seen in the clip. One person wrote: “She laughed like everyone else, so maybe she thought it was part of it too.”
One person responded to the video with: “These clips let us be the fly on the wall. The silence is deafening.”
Another video added: “I can feel the tension in the room.”
After watching the clip, one person said: “What I find most remarkable is how Jada doesn’t turn to comfort her husband or calm him down.”
Other Reddit users in the thread also commented on Chris Rock’s reaction. While the comedian tried to make light of the slap after it happened, some people theorised he was actually more emotional. “This angle also gives a totally different perspective of Chris Rock’s reaction. Dude is just trying to process what happened, and seems in shock that nobody is coming to his defense. [sic]”
Jada officially broke her silence on Instagram days after the ceremony. She posted a motivational quote on her feed that said: "This is a season for healing and I am here for it".
The Academy announced on Wednesday that is has begun ‘disciplinary proceedings’ against Will, who won the award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard within an hour of the his outburst.
