Local police confirmed that the van had been taken over in the early hours of the morning

Harry Styles’ crew has been hijacked by armed gangsters in Brazil, local police have confirmed.

The crew’s van, which was full of equipment, was taken over by gunmen in the early hours of the morning today along the ‘highway to hell’ BR-116 motorway between Sao Paulo to the city of Curitiba.

The crew members were heading to the city in advance of the singer’s Love On Tour show at the Pedreira Paulo Leminski venue on Saturday, when three armed men stopped the vehicle.

The Military Police said that the criminals overtook the vehicle in Campina Grande do Sul, before forcing it to stop and stealing the van alongside the crew’s equipment, G1 reported.

The van belongs to Live Nation, the entertainment company selling tickets for the event, which was transporting merchandise for Styles’ tour, it was later revealed.

The police in the area said the driver was ‘subdued’ by the three robbers on the stretch of road, who have yet to be found by officials. The van has also yet to be recovered by authorities in the area.

However, this story is still currently developing.

The British star, 28, performed in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night, before planning to take to the stage once again at the outdoor venue in Curitiba on Saturday (10 December).

Styles’ tour includes 84 shows in 22 countries. Originally, his shows in Brazil were scheduled to take place in October 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic caused the tour to be rescheduled for this year.

Brazil’s remote highway is famously known to be a dangerous path - having been dubbed as ‘the highway to hell’ due to it's terrible sexual exploitation of children along the road.

It is also named 'the highway of death' due to the many number of car crashes.

Spanning across 4,542km, it marks the longest highway in the country.

The 'As It Was' singer also had a close encounter with a fan last night while on stage.

In footage shared on social media, Styles can be heard belting out one of his old tunes when a member of the audience clambers onto the stage. Luckily, security managed to grab the person before they reached him.
