So, fans were understandably confused when Archie told Veronica in season six that he’d be staying in the town with Betty where bad things famously happen, while she plans to jet off to New York to start a new life.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their confusion, with one writing: “Archie wants to stay in Riverdale because he wants to build a family. Does this guy know he can build a family anywhere else? Like in New York with Veronica.”

“Archie wants to save the soul of Riverdale because he wants to raise a family in this cursed evil town #FREEHIM,” someone else tweeted.

Another fan asked: “Does Archie know that you can raise a family in places that are not Riverdale?”

“Archie leaving Riverdale after Betty rejected him and then coming back so he can start a family with her YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS S*** UP!”

“Poor Veronica, she doesn’t deserve this,” another penned. “It’s obvious this is foreshadowing though. This is all set up for Archie and Veronica ending up in New York. Archie needs to realize he can have a family there too, he has an obsession with Riverdale and betty is tied to that obsession.”

Meanwhile, some viewers understood Archie’s desire to stay in Riverdale and reconnect with Betty.

“I totally get where you're coming from, but one of the things I actually love most about Archie is his love for Riverdale. I really admire that, for some odd reason,” one said.

“Riverdale is where Archie's dad died,” one fan reminded viewers. “It’s where he grew up, it’s where he’s had his best memories. It means everything to him, the SIGNIFICANCE of having a family there. It’s the symbol that even in a place where so many terrible things can happen, life can thrive. Hope can.”

“Y’all if Archie was in love with Veronica and really wanted a family with just her he would’ve gone to NYC. But he didn’t. What is keeping him in Riverdale is having a family with BETTY and ONLY BETTY!”

Season six of Riverdale is available to stream weekly on Netflix.
