Riverdale fans are confused over this Archie storyline - and it has everything to do with his future and hopes to have a family one day.

The Netflix drama depicts teenagers Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) navigating school life in a town which is bursting with sinister events and blood-thirsty criminals.

So, fans were understandably confused when Archie told Veronica in season six that he’d be staying in the town with Betty where bad things famously happen, while she plans to jet off to New York to start a new life.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their confusion, with one writing: “Archie wants to stay in Riverdale because he wants to build a family. Does this guy know he can build a family anywhere else? Like in New York with Veronica.”

“Poor Veronica, she doesn’t deserve this,” another penned. “It’s obvious this is foreshadowing though. This is all set up for Archie and Veronica ending up in New York. Archie needs to realize he can have a family there too, he has an obsession with Riverdale and betty is tied to that obsession.”

Meanwhile, some viewers understood Archie’s desire to stay in Riverdale and reconnect with Betty.

“I totally get where you're coming from, but one of the things I actually love most about Archie is his love for Riverdale. I really admire that, for some odd reason,” one said.

“Riverdale is where Archie's dad died,” one fan reminded viewers. “It’s where he grew up, it’s where he’s had his best memories. It means everything to him, the SIGNIFICANCE of having a family there. It’s the symbol that even in a place where so many terrible things can happen, life can thrive. Hope can.”
