Toy Story Fans Spot Hidden Tribute To The Shining In Sid's House Scene

Toy Story Fans Spot Hidden Tribute To The Shining In Sid's House Scene

Eagle eyed fans have spotted a link.

Toy Story fans have spotted a link between the beloved Disney film and The Shining.

Over on Reddit, one person pointed out that the carpet on the floor of Sid's hallway is the same pattern as the floor in The Shining, where Danny can be seen playing in the Overlook Hotel.

Take a look for yourself...

And others agreed, with one commenting on the thread: "Woody looks just as mind blown."

A third added: "Almost certainly a nod to (or by) Lee Unkrich, who is obsessed with The Shining."

Pixar's Lee Unkrich has spoken previously about his obsession with The Shining. He told Empire in 2012: “I've thought a lot about why it obsesses me, and I think it's multi-tiered. I think on one level it's because it was the film that got me interested in not only filmmaking, but also having a sense that there's a singular voice controlling the imagery that's being put on the screen.

"Also I think it was because it was the first film I saw that so pervasively had a specific mood to it. I'd never seen a movie that had made me feel so unsettled during the entire film. I think that's one of the main things that have caused it to live on for so many years, that Kubrick created such a pervasive feeling of dread. I've thought a lot about it and studied it, trying to understand how he did that."

While the carpet reference in the first Toy Story movie is said to be the work of fellow Shining fan Ralph Eggleston, there are other nods to The Shining throughout the Toy Story movies, which Lee worked on. There are a number of references to the number 237 - the hotel room number in The Shining - including a garbage truck registration in Toy Story 3 - RM237 - and the model number of a CCTV camera in Sunnyside Daycare - Overlook R237.

"The PA system was modelled after the PA system in The Shining that's in Stuart Ullman's office. The tissue box near it also has a print Shining fans might recognise," said Lee.

"When Trixie the dinosaur is text-messaging her friend, his code is Velocistar237."

This has blown our minds!
