People say new ‘free-bleeding’ alternative is a ‘life-changing’ tactic that you won’t regret

With free-bleeding – the practice of intentionally menstruating without using something to soak up your flow – becoming increasingly popular, particularly among the younger generation, many are abandoning tampons and pads.

But it can be tricky to find ways to free-bleed when you’re out and about. So, for those who are looking for alternatives to traditional methods of absorbing menstrual blood who might not be ready to fully free-bleed, that’s where period underwear can come into play.

And people are raving about one brand in particular on TikTok and across social media. So, of course we had to do some investigating.

Here’s everything you need to know about the cult product…

ModiBodi

How do they work?

Essentially, Modibodi and similar brands who provide reusable leak-proof underwear, swimwear and clothing, have a built-in lining for people who menstruate to wear during their time of the month.

And depending on your typical flow, they have a range of absorbencies taking you from everyday – for those that maybe wear a panty liner to absorb any natural moisture that occurs over the course of a day – to Super Overnight and Maxi options – which can absorb up to 40ml/8 tampons and 50ml/10 tampons worth of blood, respectively.

Regardless of the absorbency level that you need, Modibod’s period underwear comes in a great range of styles and colours and just from looking at them, you would hardly notice that you’re wearing anything other than traditional undergarments.

They look and feel just like a normal pair of pants but thankfully you don’t need to worry about being caught out when your period unexpectedly arrives a few days early or if you’re unable to easily change your pad or tampon during a busy day at work or while travelling.

Whether you prefer a bit more coverage with a boyshort, brief or high waist knicker, they even do padded bikini and thong styles which we sometimes have to forgo when we’ve got our period as the pad can look and feel rather bulky.

We also love the fact that they do period swimwear too. I mean, how many times have you had to sit on the sidelines instead of enjoying the pool while you have your period on holiday. The same can be said for having to miss out on a dip in the pool here in the UK, normally for at least a few days if not a whole week.

And from what we’ve seen online, Modibodi’s products have been a real ‘game changer’ for those who menstruate.

With prices starting from as little as £12 a pair, they will ultimately save you money in the long run as you won’t need to keep buying pads and tampons and dealing with the waste created by them.

What are customers saying?

As we say, the brand have gone viral on social media, with many taking to Instagram and TikTok to share their experience of swapping from pads, tampons and even menstrual cups to period underwear.

One happy shopper shared on the brand’s Instagram account: “I’ve tried ALL the brands (you know me when i like something & deep dive it!) Modibodi are HANDS DOWN the best I have found. Have never let me down. All the others have.”

While another took to their website to explain: “These are so so comfortable. They don’t feel wet at all when I’m on my period and they’re so leak proof. I was a bit sceptical, but actually they’re great and I have never looked back. So easy to clean and wash, no foul odour. Thank you so much Modibodi - they’re magic!”

A third simply added: “ABSOLUTELY Brilliant – wouldn't wear anything different now.”
