It's one of the most searched-for beauty conditions and notoriously pesky to treat: yes ,we're talking about hyperpigmentation.

Whether it’s something you routinely struggle with or you’ve started to notice what look like freckles or darker patches of skin popping up all over your face and chest, hyperpigmentation is nothing to worry about but it can be a bit frustrating to have to deal with.

Essentially, exposure to the sun’s rays – even if you’re wearing SPF – can make the condition more noticeable, while everything from hormonal changes to pregnancy can affect it too.

So, if you’ve been on the lookout for a skincare product to help deal with it, a brand new brightening serum is proven to improve hyperpigmentation, with it also having a number of other benefits.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Drunk Elephant C-Luma Hydrabright Serum…

Priced at £60 for a 30ml bottle, it’s formulated with an interesting blend of vitamin C, with that particular ingredient being world renowned for its brightening and evening properties. And of course, the effect that it can have on dark spots and hyperpigmentation, too.

It has a gel-like consistency, making it a great option for all skin types, with it also feeling nourishing and hydrating on the skin, which is a nice added bonus.

What’s the difference between the C-Luma and C-Firma serums?

If you’re already a fan of the Drunk Elephant skincare range, you might be familiar with their C-Firma Fresh Day Serum. And that might leave you wondering if you need both the C-Firma and the C-Luma serums or what the difference is between them.

Essentially, C-Luma is the gentler option – with it having a strength of 10% vitamin C, compared to C-Firma’s 15%. Because of this, it is ideal for those of us who are more sensitive to traditional vitamin C formulas.

Both will help to improve hyperpigmentation and signs of ageing but C-Luma will do this at a more gradual pace, while also addressing skin concerns like blemishes and redness.

It’s also worth noting that despite containing vitamin C, the new C-Luma can be used alongside actives such as exfoliating acids and retinol, with you also being able to use it at day and night, which isn’t always possible with higher strengths of the vitamin.

And by popping on your SPF in the morning, you’ll be giving your skin double the protection from any UV damage and in turn, your hyperpigmentation getting any worse.

What are reviewers saying?

One fan took to the Drunk Elephant Instagram account to share: “I love the light gel serum texture that just blends seamlessly into my skin. It feels like I have nothing on. It’s great for dullness and hyperpigmentation and over time it also helps with elasticity.

While another called it ‘the most beautiful serum by far.’
