Military forces have joined the search for a magician who seemingly disappeared into thin air.
Daniel Hidden, an Australian trickster, was first reported missing by his family earlier this month, who claim they last saw him leaving an address in Broadbeach, Queensland, at around 3am on 14 June.
The 26-year-old's silver Hyundai Santa Fe was discovered by police two days later at a popular hiking area near Gorge Falls and Cougal Cascades.
Hidden's Galaxy caravan, mobile phone and several other personal items were also discovered at the scene, which his family describes as one of his favourite hiking spots.
His professional magic website currently displays an unnerving message that reads: "Transformation requires disappearance."
Police are appealing for information (X/@QldPolice) Despite this, his brother, Ilya Jamshidi, told the press they're convinced Hidden embarked on a solo venture through the rugged terrain, being that he 'does do getaways, camping frequently, but never no contact'.
"He hasn’t taken his phone with him, which is a bit unusual," Jamshidi told 7News. "A week without contact or shelter, that’s pretty unusual to us.
"The last time I saw him was Saturday, when we got to the gym together."
He added that Hidden - whose magic shows regularly involve illusions and mind-reading - has visited the tourist-friendly area several times in the past.
"He’s taken me to this place as well," Jamshidi continued. "This is one of his favourites. He’s got the coordinates of a spot in this place tattooed on his fingers, so it means a lot to him.
Jamshidi said Hidden usually contacts his family when planning a hike (7News) "He doesn’t like sticking to marked tracks. He desires the hardship in unexplored places."
A search of the dense green area has been ongoing for over a week now, with rescue teams having recently been joined by police officers, SES crews, volunteers and military personnel.
The Australian Defence Force was the latest to sign up, with participants in the search scouting along over 20 walking tracks which stretch from the Gold Coast all the way to New South Wales.
Brett Jackson, the acting inspector on the case, explained: "We have the family out on scene, and obviously they’re very distraught, and our thoughts are with them. And we’re doing everything we can to try to locate Hidden.
The military have since joined the search (7News) "Unfortunately, we haven’t located anything in the bushland or during our search. We’re hoping to identify some sort of signs or trail, but it is very dense rainforest brushland, and it does go over a large, very large area."
Jackson also noted: "Because of the terrain and the large area that needs to be traversed, we have been utilising aerial assets in Queensland, including police, Polair and also drones."
Hidden's mother, Faranak, also shared a heartbreaking statement with the press, claiming the family is holding onto faith that he's still alive.
"He is my son, and he is very strong," she said. "You don’t know how he is capable of doing anything.
"I believe in him, but now it’s been more than eight days. We need to find him; he needs help. But he’s alive, and people can come and help to find him before something happens."
Queensland Police said: "Daniel is 180cm tall with an average build and olive complexion. He has long black hair, a black beard and brown eyes.
"He was last seen wearing a maroon-coloured top and black cargo pants."
