A doctor in training has taken to TikTok to vent about the fact she’s often told ‘she doesn't look like a medical student’.

A woman named Jasmine (@jademoiselle) shared a short video on social media in which she mimed along to a Chris Brown song.

Across the clip, she wrote: “If I got $1 every time they tell me I don’t look like a med student,” and added the caption: “Guess I am not allowed to take care of myself.”

And her followers were quick to comment.

Beneath Jasmine’s post, one social media user wrote: “When will people realise the whole beauty vs brains thing is a myth lmao u can be pretty AND smart.”

Jasmine replied: “For real,” and added an eye roll emoji.

Other comments included: “What does a med student look like? I never really understood why people combine appearance and occupation,” and “Love seeing stunning girls doing medicine!”

And one commenter shared Jasmine's struggle: “Story of my life. Automatically assume I’m a nurse.”

Just last month, another TikToker claimed she and a friend were detained at an airport by US Customs because of their good looks.

Mikaela Testa, an Australian influencer who posts under the handle @mikaelatesta, told her 2.2 million TikTok followers they were held for about five hours before finally being released.

Mikaela alleged airport officials had mistaken her and her friend for strippers or escorts, explaining: “Okay, so we got to the LAX airport. I made sure I looked really, really ratchet and bad because I know that the US Customs are really strict.

“Trinity, with her beautiful eyelash extensions and big, fat juicy lips, pulls up looking hot to the US Customs and I knew. I knew but I didn’t say anything.

“The US Customs guy goes, ‘is this your first time in LA?’ She’s like, ‘yeah'. ‘Do you have a return flight?’ ‘No'.”

Mikaela went on: “I know for a fact that he thought she was a prostitute or an escort looking to work in the US because they love detaining Australian girls and accusing them of that until they tell the truth.”

After Mikaela’s video went viral, a spokesperson for US Customers and Border Protection told LADbible in a statement: "Due to privacy law restrictions we can’t comment on individual cases.

"It is absolutely false and misleading that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will determine a traveller's admissibility based on their looks or physical appearance. Travellers must demonstrate they are bona-fide visitors into the United States.

"CBP officers determine a traveller admissibility based on all factors presented during the inspection process."
