Six-year-old boy dies 12 days after being shot in the head by stray bullet

A six-year-old boy has died 12 days after he was shot in the head by a stray bullet while playing outside.

Tugrul Firat Gokalp was spending time in the backyard of his house playing when he was fatally shot on 29 October.

He lived in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep province in southeastern Turkey.

Tugrul’s family noticed that the little boy had fallen to the ground and blood was flowing from his head. They called emergency services immediately and medics arrived at the scene and found that Tugrul had been shot in the head.

The child was transferred to a private hospital after an initial intervention at the scene but despite the best efforts of medics, he passed away 12 days after the incident happened.

Following the completion of the procedures at Gaziantep Forensic Medicine Institute, the young boy’s body was handed over to his family to be buried.

An investigation is reportedly ongoing over Tugrul’s death, with efforts underway to find the suspect or suspects.
