Meghan Markle accused of ‘lying’ about waffles as people spot inconsistency in video she posted

The Duchess of Sussex's St. Patrick's Day breakfast has raised some eyebrows

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently whipped up a green breakfast dish in honour of St. Patrick’s Day - but ‘fans’ apparently have a lot to say on the matter.

Earlier this year, Meghan, 43, returned to Instagram for the first time since 2020, posting a video of herself running barefoot across an overcast beach.

The former Suits actress has since filled her feed with snapshots of her LA lifestyle, including images of herself and her husband, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, rainbow tablescapes and clips taken from her new Netflix cooking series.

On Monday (March 17), the mother-of-two shared another video with her 2.5 million followers, this time rustling up some waffles in honour of St. Patrick’s Day.

In one upload, Meghan could be seen whisking a bowl of green batter with the caption: ‘About this morning…”

The Duchess could then be seen pouring the contents of the bowl into a waffle maker for her children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, to tuck into.

One of the waffles was made into a face using blueberries for the eyes, a kiwi segment as the mouth, and whipped cream as the hair.

She then showed ordinary green waffles for herself, accompanied by strawberries, cream and a smoothie.

"For the kids... and us. Happy St. Patrick's Day,” she scribed, followed by a green heart emoji.

Unfortunately, Meghan has received backlash online, with some claiming she is ‘lying’ about the final product.

“Why does the waffle maker not match the shape of the waffle she’s demonstrating?,” one X user wrote. “It’s looking more like a Leggo My Eggo waffle!”

Another echoed: “You mean the waffle maker she covered in green goo before she toasted the store bought waffles?”

Someone else remarked: “That’s clearly not a photo of the waffle she was making. The waffle iron she used has four sections per waffle, and the one in the picture doesn’t match that.”

However, hundreds of users have used their social media profiles to defend the mother-of-two, with one writing: “LOL ppl going crazy because Meghan Markle made green waffles You know you can change the waffle iron plates, right?!”

“You shouldn’t get upset about waffles,” replied someone else.

A third commented: “She obviously didn’t, you just picking and choosing a picture you wanna hate on #Meghan #WithLoveMeghan.”

Previously Prince Harry revealed that his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II gifted his and Meghan’s son Archie a waffle maker when he was a toddler.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the Invictus Games founder said: "My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker.

“She sent us a waffle maker for Archie. So breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix in the waffle maker."

He added at the time that Archie - who was only two - simply ‘loved’ the waffle maker, adding: "Archie wakes up in the morning and goes 'waffle.'

Previously Meghan has discussed her love for cooking with PEOPLE, admitting she’s usually up at around 6.30 to make breakfast for her family.

“My husband and Archie both love fried eggs," she confessed.

"There’s a lot of bacon around here. And then sometimes you don’t have time for all that, and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day. And there’s no shame in that either.”

Of course, it's entirely likely that she made the smaller waffle in a different waffle maker for Archie, and used the bigger machine for her and Harry. That would make sense, wouldn't it?
