King Charles’ goddaughter quietly deletes controversial Meghan Markle video

It seems India Hicks has taken down a clip from her podcast with Brooke Shields, where the actress gave her thoughts on Meghan Markle

King Charles’ goddaughter India Hicks appears to have deleted a video from her website that involved Hollywood actress Brooke Shields criticising Meghan Markle for being 'too precious'.

If you’re not up to speed, India - who is the daughter of interior designer David Hicks and Lady Pamela Hicks, and goddaughter of King Charles III - hosts her own podcast, aptly named The India Hicks Podcast.

And last week, she sat down with movie legend Brooke Shields to grill her about her life and career ahead of her 60th birthday.

During the interview, Brooke recalled an interaction between herself and the Duchess Of Sussex, where she interrupted her on stage in front of a huge crowd of people.

The moment in question took place during broadcaster Katie Couric’s International Women’s Day panel at Austin’s SXSW festival in March last year.

Brooke explained that she was worried Meghan’s serious tone would not keep the audience engaged, so she tried to save the day with a lighthearted joke.

She said on the podcast: “Katie asks the first question to Meghan and she talks about how at a young age, she was already advocating for women.

“She starts telling a story about how when she was 11 - and she keeps saying, ‘Well, when I was 11, I saw this commercial and they were talking about how washing dishes was for women.

“And she said, ‘I didn’t think only women wash dishes. It wasn’t fair. So I wrote to the company.”

The Hollywood star continued: “She kept saying she was 11! She wrote to the company, they changed the text, they changed the commercial. It was just too precious, and I was like, they’re not going to want to sit here for 45 minutes and listen to anybody be precious or serious.

“I go, ‘Excuse me, I’m so sorry, I’ve got to interrupt you there for one minute’. I was trying not to be rude, but I wanted to be funny because it was so serious.”

So, Brooke decided to reference her controversial role in the 1978 film Pretty Baby, where she played a child sex worker at the age of 12.

She told the crowd: “I just want to give everybody here a context as to how we’re different. When I was 11, I was playing a prostitute,” which earned a few laughs.

The podcast episode where Brooke told the story of what happened was at the top of India’s Substack page, but it has since been removed, reports the MailOnline.

India hasn’t addressed why she took the segment down, however, it could be something to do with the criticism that came from Meghan’s supporters after the story gained traction online.

One person wrote on social media: “I’m so confused, the moderator asked Meghan a question on the panel, & whilst she was replying to the question she’d been asked, Brooke felt the need to interrupt her to talk about playing a prostitute, like ?? I don’t get it?”

Another added: “I just watched the live clip. It was not Brooke interrupting her. She spoke at the end of the story and was just trying to insert herself in the conversation.

Defending the Duchess, they continued: “Katie Couric asked Meghan to tell the story. Meghan did not lead with it.”

Tyla has contacted a representative for India for comment.
