Diana Fans Divided Over Camilla's New Title

Princess Diana fans are divided over the news that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has been endorsed for a new title.

Camilla Parker Bowles, who has been a senior member of the royal family since marrying Prince Charles 17 years ago, will have to title of Queen Consort when Charles becomes king.

As she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth II has offered her official approval and "sincere wish" for Camilla transition from Duchess to Queen, and called upon the public to support her decision.

Prince Charles has since said in a statement that the Queen's endorsement has been an honour to both him and his "darling wife".

While many were thrilled over the news, some hardcore Princess Diana fans were less than pleased, insisting that they will 'never' call Camilla queen.

One horrified royal fan tweeted: "I am shooketh. How dare the Queen make Camilla 'queen consort'. That's bulls**t and disrespectful to Princess Diana."

Another wrote: "70 years that our queen has been our queen. I think she got it wrong today though, too many of us who lived through Diana will never accept Camilla in that role."

A third added: "I just love Princess Diana so much. “Queen Consort” Camilla feels wrong to me."

One Diana fanatic commented: "Do not agree at all with Camilla being Queen Consort. The public who loved Diana will not accept her. The fact the Queen has publicly had to say this speaks volumes she knows we don’t want to accept her."

There were some particularly nasty comments about Camilla, following the news, remembering how her relationship with Prince Charles first began and claiming that she was not fit to be queen.

Amongst the outrage, some Diana fans were calling for peace, insisting that Camilla becoming queen one day wouldn't be the end of the world and remembering not to pit the two women against each other.

Noting that it has been almost 25 years since Princess Diana's death, royal supporters called for more disgruntled fans to cool off.

One fan noted: "If Diana’s children can accept Queen Camilla, so can you."

A second wrote: "I think it would be appropriate. I have a lot of love for Diana but we must look forward. Camilla has proved herself worthy of the role of Queen consort."

One even suggested: "If Princess Diana were alive today I don’t think she care if Camilla was titled Queen. Diana would be on such a stratospheric level of fame, legacy, relevance, good works & reputation that would’ve rivalled/surpassed Queen Elizabeth. Royal family would simply pale in significance."
