President Macron’s wife Brigitte publicly snubs him during state visit with King Charles

It's not the first time the couple endured an awkward moment on a plane

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte have appeared to be involved in yet another viral plane moment during their state visit to the United Kingdom earlier today (8 July).

Footage is now making its rounds online of Macron offering the French First Lady a hand off the plan as they arrived London for the three-day visit, greeted by Prince William and Kate Middleton.

However, she very noticeably ignored his offer and instead opted to hold the handrail as she walked down the steps - leaving her husband to awkwardly drop his hand, before giving Kate's hand an air kiss.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, body language expert Darren Stanton told Tyla: "Macron held his hand out to be courteous to make sure his wife didn’t trip or fall, but she doesn’t appear to respond."

According to the expert, he showed 'signs of embarrassment' in the moments after the alleged snub, but 'still continues to try and help her.'

"However she still doesn’t extend her hand, which means he’s left with his arm extended - which is a bit awkward," Darren added, speaking of Brigitte.

He concluded: "She appears to have completely ignored him in front of the world’s media, which could be seen as a big snub."

Tyla has reached out to Macron for comment.

And this is far from the first time the Macrons have had an awkward moment when exiting a plane.

Earlier this year (25 May), the 47-year-old French president and his missus, 72, kicked off their South-East Asia tour starting with Hanoi in Vietnam.

Footage which has since circled all across social media shows Macron standing by the plane's exit as workers opened the door, at which point a hand believed to be Brigitte's suddenly comes into view and appears to 'slap' his face.

Seconds later, Brigitte walks out behind him and the pair descend the stairs onto the runway.

The supposed scuffle may have inevitably sent the internet into overdrive, but Macron has since claimed the exchange may not have been what it seemed.

He later told reporters that they had simply been joking around, with France24 reporting he said: "We are horsing around and, really, joking with my wife."

Macron added that the incident had been massively overblown, saying: "It becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe."

His office had also previously offered an explanation, echoing that the couple – who have been married since 2007 – were just mucking about.

"It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around," a statement said.

"It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists."
