Donald Trump makes U-turn on running for president again

Donald Trump seemingly can't make his mind up about the 2028 election as he appears to have changed his stance on if he would try to run for a third term.

The Republican leader, 79, has made a series of vague comments on the matter in recent months, leaving people confused over his plans.

Now, before we get into it, for those who aren't aware, the US Constitution states that one person can only serve two terms as President in the US, and taking on a third is strictly prohibited.

So, even if Trump did want to do so, he likely wouldn't be able to, unless he bypassed the Constitution somehow.

The 22nd Amendment states: "No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice, and no person who has held the office of president, or acted as president, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected president shall be elected to the office of the president more than once."

But Trump's answers to questions about a third term haven't been straightforward.

Back in January, he told supporters at a rally: "It will be the greatest honour of my life to serve not once, but twice - or three times or four times."

But he immediately insisted he was joking and would only serve two terms, adding: "Headlines for the fake news!"

Most recently, he was quizzed by reporters today (Monday 27 October) on what his plans are - and he didn't exactly say no.

As per ABC News, when asked about the prospect of a 2028 presidential bid, he replied: "I would love to do it. I have my best numbers ever. It's very terrible. I have my best numbers.

"Am I not ruling it out? You'll have to tell me. All I can tell you is that we have a great, a great group of people, which they [the Democrats] don't."

The reporter then pushed on whether he would be willing to fight in court over the legality of running for president again, to which Trump said: "I haven't really thought about it.

"We have some very good people, as you know, but I've had, I have the best poll numbers I've ever had."

So, make of that what you will.

He also talked about the potential Republican candidates for 2028 presidential, to which he name-dropped members of his own organisation.

Trump said: "We have great people. I don't have to get into that, but we have one of them standing right here. We have, JD [Vance], obviously the vice president is great. Marco [Rubio]'s great."

However, he did rule out the idea of himself running for the role of US Vice President, according to the publication.

The world leader said: "Yeah, I'd be allowed to do that. I guess I think it's too cute. Yeah, I would rule that out because it's too cute.

"I think the people wouldn't like that. It's too cute. It's not - it wouldn't be right."

Referring to medical tests he received at Walter Reed hospital earlier this month, Trump also said if his health screenings came back 'to reveal something bad' then he 'wouldn't run'.

Trump said: "And if I didn't think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively. I wouldn't run. I'd do something. But the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they've ever seen."
