Donald Trump seemed to forget the name of Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha, as he spoke about her Greenland trip.

It’s always hard to remember the name of everyone you meet, but you’d expect to at least know the name of the wife of your closes colleague.

However, the US President appeared to glitch when speaking to the press at the White House.

Trump became to comment on an upcoming trip with the second lady and US national security adviser, Mike Waltz, fly to Greenland on 27 March, which has sparked controversy.

In fact, Greenlanders have been saying that it is a ‘demonstration of power’ on Trump’s end.

However, Trump states that they were ‘invited’, even though Greenland’s government has denied his claim.

The government on social media said: “Just for the record, Naalakkersuisut, the government of Greenland, has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official.”

During his speech, Trump then attempted to mention Usha Vance, but stumbled and ended up referring to her as JD Vance’s wife.

He said at the time: “I thought it would be a great… I have great respect for, er, the wife of our first… of our great vice-president. I think she’s doing a… she’s a brilliant woman. She’s, er, a very nice woman and she loves the concept of Greenland.”

Even FOX Business host Larry Kudlow forgot her name too, saying on air: “Mike Waltz [is] going to Greenland, the erm… er, JD Vance’s wife is going to Greenland.”

Trump’s visit to Greenland comes at a tense time between the nations as the president has been loud and clear about wanting to own the country.

Trump delivered a 90-minute address in front of Congress on 4 March where he discussed his key objectives for his second presidency.

He also spoke about DOGE, trade tariffs, and the situation in Ukraine, but some viewers were surprised when he had a message for the people of Greenland, too.

In fact, it set alarm bells for many when Trump spoke about gaining control of the island.

During the address, Trump said: "And I also have a message tonight for the incredible people of Greenland. We strongly support your right to determine your own future.

"And if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America. We need Greenland for national security and even international security. And we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But we need it really for international world security. And I think we’re going to get it — one way or the other, we’re going to get it.

"We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before. It’s a very small population but very, very large piece of land and very, very important for military security."

And while he claims that the meeting is based on ‘friendship’, Greenland isn’t too sure.

Trump said of the trip: “So they’re going there and that’s purely friendship … People from Greenland are asking us to go. We have many, many requests from many, many people – some officials, too.”

Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte B. Egede instead refuted this.

He told local news: “We are now at a level where it can in no way be characterised as a harmless visit from a politician’s wife.

“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”
