Much has already been said about Donald Trump's meeting with French president Emmanuel Macron this week, but spectators have recently been left blown away by the pair's goodbye message.

The political duo sat down on Monday (24 February) for a press conference in Washington D.C. to discuss the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

One of the most hotly-discussed moments from the meeting saw 47-year-old Macron forced to fact-check the Republican leader, as Trump seemingly attempted to push the narrative that Ukraine had taken advantage of US support during its defence against Russia.

The interview saw the Frenchman tell press, 'This war cost all of us a lot of money, and this is the responsibility of Russia because the aggressor is Russia', before Trump jumped in.

The 78-year-old American stated with total confidence that EU aid to Ukraine was all in the form of loans.

"Just so you understand, Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine," Trump interjected. "They get their money back."

This is when Macron placed his hand on Trump's wrist and pointed out: "No. To be frank, we paid 60 percent of the total effort.

"Like the US, loans, guarantees, grants, and we provided real money."

He added: "If at the end of the negotiation, they are ready to give it to us, super, it will loan at the end of the day, and we will have paid for that."

Despite the somewhat embarrassing moment for Trump, the rest of their meeting appears to have gone smoothly. At least, that's what their loved-up goodbye message implied.

In a clip that has since gone viral, Trump can be seen walking Macron to his car ahead of his journey back to France.

"You take care of yourself," Macron can be heard telling Trump as he slowly backs away to approach the vehicle.

"I'll call you!" the Frenchman then calls out. "It's been wonderful."

Trump then replies, 'It's been great seeing you', before shaking his fist at his European counterpart.

And after footage of their departure greeting - captioned by one user, 'This bromance/rivalry is just too funny' - was shared on Instagram, thousands of viewers went on to express their amusement.

One teased: "He [Trump] is so competitive that he wants the word on everything. Including saying goodbye."

Another said of Macron: "He didn’t wanna leave hahahhahaha"

A third continued: "Macron looks like a cousin that came over for thanksgiving lol"

"Sorry Macron hes just not that into you," another penned.

Another joked: "First date vibes"
