Why Donald Trump is demolishing part of the White House as shocking photos show destruction

The US president's latest venture has received a lot of backlash online

Photos have been released showing the White House in total destruction, and now the reason behind them has been revealed.

Donald Trump's second term in office has been already been eventful, with the POTUS seemingly attempting to add a lasting legacy.

Aside from his controversial policies which have largely been aimed at women, LGBTQIA+, immigration and minority groups, the 79-year-old has taken steps to make other changes.

Namely, at the White House.

For months the White House has been seeing parts of the historic building being torn down, like the infamous Rose Garden that was Jackie Kennedy’s - wife of the late JFK Jr. - pride and joy.

The move saw a large paving project take over the area, much to many fans' ire.

But since images were released showing other areas of the White House’s structure torn apart, people have been eager to know what’s going on.

Why is Donald Trump demolishing part of the White House?

Trump has commissioned a nine-figure renovation plan, which is now in full swing.

This includes the creation of a fancy new ballroom, with work beginning on 20 October.

As per the BBC, construction crews 'tore down massive chunks of a covered entryway and windows in the East Wing'.

The images released show walls crushed, electrical wires dangling from the side of the building and reinforcing bar exposed.

The US leader first announced his shock plans to transform the space in July, and online users were not happy when he detailed the $250m (£186m) ballroom cost.

At 90,000 square feet and the ability to seat 650 people, it’s a huge project to undertake.

While you might be worried that this would come out of the pockets of the taxpayers, Trump confirmed that he would be footing the bill, joined by a group of mystery donors.

Sharing the plan on social media, he wrote: "I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom.

"Completely separate from the White House itself, the East Wing is being fully modernized as part of this process, and will be more beautiful than ever when it is complete!"

The president added: "For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits, etc. I am honoured to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway - with zero cost to the American Taxpayer!"

Trump continued: "The White House Ballroom is being privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly. This Ballroom will be happily used for Generations to come!"

In a press release shared on 21 October, the White House said: "In the latest instance of manufactured outrage, unhinged leftists and their Fake News allies are clutching their pearls over President Donald J. Trump’s visionary addition of a grand, privately funded ballroom to the White House — a bold, necessary addition that echoes the storied history of improvements and additions from commanders-in-chief to keep the executive residence as a beacon of American excellence."

It added: "FACT: For more than a century, U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day."

Trump still has a few of more years left to go until his term ends, so who knows what else we can expect to see change in the historic building.
