George W. Bush's daughter has joked about Barack Obama being a 'bad influence' after a lip-reader 'exposed' their inauguration conversation.

A number of former presidents were in attendance during the ceremony, which took place on Monday (20 January), including the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, George W. and Laura Bush and Barack Obama who attended the inauguration without his wife, Michelle Obama.

A deaf woman named Jackie G, who goes by the handle @tismejackieg online, took to Instagram to share her thoughts on what she thought was said between Obama and Bush, who was standing next to his wife.

According to the lip reader, the exchange began with Obama saying: "Good to see you."

Nodding his head, he continued by saying 'thank you' before turning to Bush and allegedly saying with a smile: "How can we stop what's happening?"

Jackie G captioned the short clip: "Obama 'just barely' behaving."

After leaving the Capitol Rotunda, Obama was asked if Bush behaved as Trump was sworn into office.

"Just barely," he jokingly told Washington Post reporter Emily Davies.

Davies' question referenced another video she uploaded earlier that day which saw a staff member ask Bush: "Are you going to behave?"

Answering for him, Obama replied: "Nope."

Social media users rushed to the comments to share their reactions to the exchange, with one Instagram user writing: "This Is Amazing. You are amazing."

A second praised: "You’re doing the lord's work."

"Laughing and crying at the same time," added another.

The lip reader also made sure to add a 'disclaimer' which read: "Lip reading is not a reliable form of communication, all statements are alleged."

Bush's daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, has since opened up about the 'viral' moment herself on Today on Tuesday (21 January).

She explained that their family group chat has been going off non-stop since Monday's events.

"You all already guessed what moment has been blowing up our family group chat," she said. "Yeah, my dad went viral for these cutaway shots during yesterday’s broadcast.

"The internet’s obsessed with this little smile and goofy expression."

Bush Hager also referenced the moment her dad was seen trying to stifle his laughter, assuming he 'must have made eye contact with somebody'.

She then joked that her father wasn't the only one who should be held accountable for his behaviour, continuing: "You guys, you can’t just blame him because it looks like my dad was also seated next to a bad influence.

"Take a look at what former President Barack Obama had to say."

“I just love how when they’re together, they become unusual friends,” she added.
