Demi Lovato Releases Statement Following Hospitalisation
Demi Lovato has released a statement on Instagram after a suspected overdose saw the 25-year-old rushed to hospital on 24th July.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to an incident at the singer's Hollywood home where she was found unconscious.
She was treated with an anti-overdose drug called Naloxone before being rushed to Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA.
Following her hospitalisation, a family spokesperson told NBC News: "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy."
According to Metro, Demi, who shot to fame on the Disney series Sonny With A Chance, had been sober for six years, but suffered a relapse earlier this year.
This was detailed in her honest song Sober, in which she sang: "Momma, I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore/ And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor/ To the ones who never left me/ We've been down this road before/ I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore."
Lovato has struggled with substance misuse problems for several years now and has spoken openly about her battles against it.
Speaking as part of a YouTube documentary last year, she spoke about her use of cocaine. She said: "I was scared because my mom always told me that your heart could just burst if you do it.
"But I did it anyways, and I loved it the first time that I did it."
Support for Demi has been offered by several other celebrities and friends after the news broke of the recent incident.
TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres tweeted: "I love [Demi Lovato] so much. It breaks my heart that she is going through this. She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family."
My friend @ddlovato is one of the kindest, most talented people I've ever met. Praying for her right now, addiction is a terrifying disease. There is no one more honest or brave than this woman.
