This year’s I’m A Celebrity kicked off with a bang last night (6 November) and it’s safe to say we’re in for an action-packed season.

One of the episode’s most hilarious moments came courtesy of Hollyoaks star Owen Warner, who purposely poked himself in the eye upon Sue Cleaver’s advice.

But before heading into the jungle, Owen sweetly opened up about how he intends to cope with homesickness, revealing the secret way he’ll communicate with his beloved mum.

He told The Sun: “I will give her a little one of these [makes a half heart with his hand] it is a love heart, and she does the other half.”

Owen also spoke candidly about the prospect of falling in love in the jungle and insisted he’s not too bothered about having to sleep around a campfire.

The soap star continued: “Well look I am always looking for romance but I'm not going in there especially for that.”

Owen added: "I love a bit of camping when the weather is nice. I am scared of all sorts to be fair. Snakes aren't a bit of me! I don't know why I have come to Australia! Snakes and spiders everywhere aren't they?"

Owen also spoke candidly about the prospect of falling in love in the jungle.

Owen isn’t the only I’m A Celeb contestant to have revealed they’ll be secretly communicating with their loved ones watching at home.

Speaking at Brisbane airport before heading into the jungle, Love Island star Olivia Attwood told The Sun that although she hadn’t started missing home just yet, she was sure she’d start missing her fiancé Bradley Dack and their pet dogs in the next couple of days.

Olivia said: “God it's day one so [I’m not missing] much at the minute but in three or four days the dogs and my fiancé probably.”

The reality star added: "I have got a really cute idea as well so I will save it for in the camp. We have got a few little set ups."

Before heading Down Under, Olivia revealed she and Bradley had recently bought matching friendship bracelets and hinted that they’d made the purchase knowing she was taking part in I’m A Celeb.

She replied to a fan asking where the bracelets were from: “Little beach shop in Portugal. Been holding onto them for something special."

Upon officially joining the lineup, Attwood said things hadn’t ‘sunk in’ yet, but added that she was looking forward to a ‘digital detox’.
