A young mother has tragically been found dead days after she was arrested for repeatedly calling police pleading for help.

The body of 22-year-old Hailey Silas, from Oklahoma, was discovered just after 7am on Saturday (21 October), and her identity was confirmed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department earlier this week (24 October).

Hailey's body was found by workers during a routine inspection of the barge on the Mississippi River days after she was arrested for calling emergency services for help because something had scared her.

She was taken into custody just over a week ago (15 October) after calling 911 from a gas station across from Southland Casino in West Memphis, Arkansas - more than 400 miles from where her body was uncovered, according to WREG.

The outlet also claims that Hailey told the arriving officer that she was having a 'panic attack' before later being handcuffed.

After she was taken to a police station, the mum asked to talk to her own parents, telling them that she was scared and confused, the outlet reports.

While it was not immediately apparent what Hailey was so scared of, she did reportedly ask to be taken to a 'psych ward' after the ordeal.

On Wednesday of last week (18 October), she pleaded guilty to communicating a false alarm and was given a suspended sentence, records say.

Three days after the sentencing, Hailey was found dead.

Authorities said no identification was found on her person, but Hailey's mum, LaRena Darrow, claims that someone had her phone.

According to Darrow, when she tried to call the phone it was answered by a man she did not recognise.

Three days after being sentenced, Hailey was found dead.

"And I said, 'This is my daughter’s profile, what are you doing on it?'

"And he said, 'Well, I’m sorry, Hailey doesn’t have a phone anymore'," she told the outlet.

"I don’t want to think about my baby being hurt like that and nobody being there to save her or being there to help her," she said.

The grieving mother said she 'had spoken with her Thursday night' and that Hailey had sent her 'a couple pictures of her on a bridge and she looked so happy'.

"And she was about to go sing karaoke and that was the last time I talked to her," she added. "She was an amazing mother. My grandson is missing out on such a wonderful person.

"She was such an angel."

The incident surrounding Hailey's death currently remains under investigation - with Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner calling it 'extremely unusual'.

However, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office doesn't suspect foul play, WREG reported.

Tyla has contacted Shelby County Sheriff's Office for additional comment.
