A warning was issued just hours before Georgia high school teacher Jason Hughes was killed in a freak accident during a prank played by students.
The 40-year-old, who taught at North Hall High School in Gainesville, Georgia, lost his life after a 'joke' organised by some of his students went horrifically wrong.
A group of five teenagers were covering Hughes' front lawn in toilet paper on Thursday (5 March) as part of a reported 'Junior vs Senior' prank war that takes place every year.
When Hughes saw what was going on and stepped out of his property, the group fled to the two cars they had arrived in and attempted to speed away, as per MailOnline.

However, the teacher tripped while making his way towards them and was run over by one of the cars, which was being driven by 18-year-old Jayden Ryan Wallace.

Wallace and two of the other teens he was with got out of the vehicle and tried to administer first aid to the teacher until emergency services arrived.
Hughes was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center; however, he died from his injuries.
Now, more details have been emerging about the 'prank wars' that the incident was thought to be a part of.
According to The New York Post, the prank war happens every year before spring break, with students trying to earn 'points' by playing jokes on school staff.
Last year, teachers’ homes were allegedly worth two points, and Hughes and his partner, Laura, were both teachers at the same school, making him a prime target for a prank.
Students were also said to 'lose points' if they were 'caught' by the teacher in question.
Hughes' death took place just hours after the Hall County School District issued a statement warning against the 'prank war', and urging students to be careful.

The district said in a statement posted on Thursday afternoon: "While we understand that prom is a time for celebration and creating lasting memories, we must emphasize the importance of responsible behavior and respect for others and their property.
"In previous years, some pranks during prom season–sometimes referred to as Junior/Senior Wars– have gone too far, resulting in damage to property."
It continued: "We urge all students to refrain from participating in any activities that may cause harm or destruction to school or personal property. Such actions not only reflect poorly on the individual involved but also tarnish the reputation of our schools, families, and community."
A screenshot from an Instagram page which was made for the student 'wars' outlined the rules and points system.

It also included a picture of Hughes' home covered in toilet paper in March 2023, suggesting that this wasn't the first time he'd been targeted by students.
It was captioned 'Juniors +4', which is thought to indicate that because two teachers lived there, Hughes and his partner, you get double points for pranking them.
Wallace was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering on private property.
According to jail records viewed by The Post, he's being held on a $1,950 bond.
Four other 18-year-olds, Elijah Tate Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Luque, and Ariana Cruz, were also reportedly arrested and charged with criminal trespass and littering.
