The death row inmate who survived her Tennessee execution, Christa Pike, has regained consciousness and is speaking for the first time since her ordeal, her lawyers have announced.
Lawyers for Pike said in a statement, "Against all odds, Christa Pike is conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care. Despite the severe damage she endured to her arms, she is still handcuffed and shackled to the bed. Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery."
Pike was administered with two doses of the deadly drug pentobarbital on September 30 by the Tennessee Department of Correction but she survived.
Lawyers described how she was hear whimpering, crying and complaining of the pain in her arm due to the procedure, before she lost consciousness.
