Alison Hammond has penned an emotional statement after the death of her biological father in Jamaica.

The This Morning star took to Instagram today to mourn her father, Clifford Hammond - telling fans she felt a "sense of loss and emptiness" at his passing.

His death comes just four months after Alison lost her mother to liver and lung cancer.

Sharing a picture of Clifford on her page, she wrote: "This is my real Dad Clifford Hammond who passed away last week in Jamaica.

"I'm saddened that I won't be able to make his funeral and saddened that he wasn't part of my life as much as I would have liked but I still have a sense of loss and emptiness.

"Sleep well Daddy, love leaves a memory no on can steal . RIP. [sic]"

Alison's colleagues and friends including Dr Ranj, Emily Atack, Paul Brunson and Lisa Snowdon were quick to reply and offer their condolences.

Celebs Go Dating's Paul wrote: "Because of him, we have you sis. You are a wonderfully made masterpiece. Loved and cherished by us all."

While Emily Atack replied: "Sending you so much love and strength you wonderful woman. We love you".

Alison's heartache comes at an already difficult time for the TV star, who has also been very open about the fact she's struggling following the death of George Floyd in the US.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, she said: "First, I am a mother to black boys so when I saw that image of George Floyd I saw my brother, I saw my father, I saw my son.

"I saw everybody's son, and I was disgusted to my core. It hurt me to the pit of my stomach to think that this is 2020 and we are seeing that. Let's be honest. This has been going on for ever."

She added that recent events were negatively affecting her wellbeing.

"It does have an effect on your mental health, of course it does," Hammond says.

"When I see those images on the telly of George Floyd that are put out all the time, especially when he is lying on the floor dead, that has an effect, deeply on my mental health.

We're all thinking of her right now.
