Anne Heche is 'not expected to survive' after serious brain injury

The I Know What You Did Last Summer actor was involved in a catastrophic car crash and is currently in a coma.

Anne Heche is not expected to survive the horrific car crash that led to her being rushed to hospital for severe burns and a catastrophic brain injury.

The 53-year-old actor is in a coma and is on life support following the crash and her representative said on Monday (8 August) she was in an 'extreme critical condition' after the crash and subsequent fire on 5 August.

“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,” Heche's representative said earlier this week.

Heche's family have now released a new update regarding her condition as they thanked the public for sending their prayers.

A representative for Heche's family said in a statement to Deadline: "We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne's recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital.

"Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive.

In accordance to Heche's wishes, she is currently being kept on life support to see if her organs are viable for donation to patients in need.

The statement continues: "It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.

"Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light."
