A mum has claimed Toby Carvery served a giant foot-long hot dog on a bun so small she thought the chef was 'joking'.

Irayna Coleman-Green, 47, from Hertfordshire, couldn't believe her eyes after the foot-long sausage she ordered for her son arrived in a 'three inch bun'.

"The bread was about three inches long and it was for a foot-long sausage. It was a bit of a shock," says Irayna.

"We eventually got a little bit more bread but it wasn't the whole size of a hot dog.

"Maybe the chefs spend their time doing the carvery stuff, it was disappointing. It looked like E.T.'s finger in a bit of a bread. It was a bit of a joke really."

Irayna claims that when she asked the waitress about the meal, she went to check with the chef. But the mum says when she returned, she was told that's 'how it's usually served'.

Added to that, Irayna says it was served alongside an 'appalling' side salad that consisted of raw carrot and cucumber - but no lettuce.

Toby Carvery Aldenham have apologised to the customer and said they were disappointed the meal 'doesn't reflect their high standards on this occasion'.

"Meals at other branches have been fine, there's been no problem at all, the kids love it and it's just easy," Irayna adds.

"Me, my husband and the other two kids had the carvery but Oscar decided he wanted something different so he chose that because it sounded quite nice.

"We'd all gone and got our carvery by the time we sat down and his had come up. We asked 'have you got more bread?' and we were told 'that's how it comes'.

"We were told 'that's how they serve it' and I said 'no it's not, it's supposed to be a hot dog'.

"She went back again and she came back out with a little bit more dry bread. He was starving because he'd been running round all day.

"I said 'what about the salad? This isn't really a side salad, this looks like the kids' carrot stick starter'. There was no lettuce.

"She went back again and said 'no that's the side salad, that how it comes but you're more than welcome to have some vegetables'. He ended up getting some macaroni cheese as extra on his plate."

A Toby Carvery social media representative commented on a Facebook post shared by Irayna apologising for 'any disappointment' and directed her to where she could submit an online complaint.

They said: "We're really sorry for any disappointment Irayna, If you want to make a complaint about this visit, you can do so via [our website] and the Manager will respond further."

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery Aldenham, added: "We're proud of our popular Footlong Super-Pig, so we are very disappointed one of our valued customers received a meal that doesn't reflect our high standards on this occasion.

"We have raised this with our internal teams to investigate and would like to apologise to the guest and invite her back to have a delicious meal on us."
