This is such a brilliant idea.

While most of us merely have to stay at home watching boxsets during lockdown, devoted NHS workers are risking their lives every day to care for COVID-19 patients.

Now, a fundraiser has been set up to deliver meals to the true heroes of the coronavirus crisis, while they work around the clock to save lives.

'Meals for the NHS' was started last month by a team of London-based entrepreneurs who felt helpless stuck in lockdown at home.

They wanted to do something to help the frontline NHS staff working tirelessly to care for COVID-19 patients and prevent the spread of the disease.

So, they started an idea within just a week to buy meals for NHS staff using funds donated by the public.

The team way surpassed their initial target of £300,000, and are now closing in on £750,000 in donations. Their current goal now stands at £1 million.

A meal on average costs £5 and the organisation's waiting list is already standing at over 15,000 meals to deliver to workers at 27 hospitals.

The organisation is now looking to raise even more money to provide meals to more hospitals, so staff can access proper food, instead of living off chocolate bars from vending machines or struggling to access the canteens, which close after hours.

Each meal costs £5 and the organisation is urging more people to donate if they can (

A nurse whose hospital recently received a food delivery said: "Just want to say I've got so many thanks from ppl for the food! Today was particularly tough - it was a very emotional day and when they saw the boxes in the staff room, they loved it.

"So, really - thank you to you and your team."

One doctor also added: "Any food would be so appreciated; the hospital canteen shuts in the evening and the food shops are empty. Anything at the weekend would be the most helpful. Thank you so much for this, we all appreciate it massively."

It's a simple way to support the NHS working on the frontline (

While many of us are sitting at home looking for ways to help those battling coronavirus, this is a simple way to show your support.

If you can spare anything at all, please donate to this incredible cause. 100 per cent of donations go towards providing meals (including food, delivery costs and payment processing fees) to healthcare workers.

It's so important we stand behind our brilliant NHS at this crucial time. You can donate here.
